David-Abookire
David Abookire, LMT, Sports & Injury Specialist, Owner & Director of Therapies, Educator & National Speaker, Yoga Anatomy & Biomechanics Instructor. Boulder office.

David has been treating athletes and injured clients since 1999. He specializes in Sports Therapy, Injury Rehabilitation and the relief of chronic pain patterns. David has helped clients avoid surgery, dramatically changed scoliosis (which he has himself) and corrects postural imbalances with all of his clients. He blends a yoga background with a number of therapeutic techniques from various modalities combining Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Strain/Counter Strain, Trigger Point Therapy, and Breath Awareness. David has attended many advanced trainings including over 40 hours in a human dissection lab to strengthen his education.

David’s work is often described as “very deep therapeutic massage with a gentle approach to the body.” He consults athletes on biomechanical dysfunction by assessing postural anomalies, gait dysfunction and muscular imbalances. David developed an extensive preventative maintenance program for the Colorado Rapids that he has been implementing to his athletes since 1999. David also developed and teaches Functional Anatomy classes to yoga instructors around the country.

If you are “stuck” or have lost hope, schedule an appointment with David and see how his work is highly analytical and just “different”. He listens to your concerns, evaluates your injury and prior care and helps guide you on a path to find balance in your body. It’s all about identifying limitations in your body and optimizing efficiency. So the same strategies he uses to help his professional athletes become the best versions of themselves are applied to rapidly decrease your imbalances and areas of pain.

Interests:

David has lived in the mountains outside Boulder since 1994. He is passionate about the outdoors and loves mountain biking, skiing, hiking, walking his dog, strength training and spending time with his amazing wife and 2 children. As an aging athlete with scoliosis, David understands how important it is to maintain a high level of activity late into life and strives to practice what he teaches. He has done multiple endurance mountain bike races, including the Leadville 100, and you’ll often find him skiing in the backcountry or off-piste.

You have a gift, and the knowledge and expertise that you provide to clients like me is so much more effective and valuable than so many other therapeutic disciplines and providers. I feel very confident in saying that since I’ve seen so many physicians, physical therapists and other alternative care providers since this mess started (many of whom have been very good and helpful, as you know). But if I had to put it into one word, I would say that your care is exceptional (specifically, your knowledge and expertise, results oriented and individualized approach, and understanding of the many complexities involved). And you’re nice!Julie G.
Dear David, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your outstanding efforts in helping my son recover from a herniated disc and long standing scoliosis problems. As a physical therapist, I am very particular about health care providers. You were absolutely the best! My son went from a pain level of 9 to being virtually pain free in these months of treatment with you. But most importantly I believe you have taught him much about self-care and prevention for the future. I see significant improvements in his posture and flexibility. Although he is now moving forward with the trainer you recommended and doing well, it is reassuring that you are there to help him if there are occasional problems that could occur on the continued road to recovery.

Word of mouth is the best marketing tool for a service business like yours, and you certainly will have nothing but positive testimonials from me. Seeing my son in such agony was difficult for me, but I am so encouraged with his progress. While I don’t know if he will return to tennis and all his athletic activities, his improvement is just remarkable. If I can help you in some way, please reach out to me. Thanks so much for all you have done!Sandy

I rarely review but the team here is incredible! I’ve been getting regular massages for the last 7yrs from various people and have to say Dave is one of the best I’ve had! He’s not only very talented but is great at communicating and following up – it’s more of a long term goal to help deal with your pains rather than a quick 60min spa feel good experience which I appreciate. The chiropractic team is also fantastic and Nate has been very helpful with my recovery (he’s also a personal trainer which I’ve enjoyed to use along with my physical therapy work). The best thing is that this place is integrative so they’re all able to talk with each other and create a program that works across massage, chiro, pt, etc. Very grateful I’ve found them and highly recommend!Spencer
